A Saturday holiday is observed on the Friday before and a Sunday holiday on the Monday after. New Year's Day 2028 falls on a Saturday, so it is observed on Fri, Dec 31, 2027.
Are Black Friday and Good Friday federal holidays?
No. Neither is a federal holiday, though many employers give Black Friday off. US stock markets close early (1:00 PM Eastern) on Black Friday and stay closed all day on Good Friday.
Are Easter, Valentine's Day and Halloween public holidays?
Not in the US. Easter Sunday always falls on a weekend; Valentine's Day and Halloween are celebrations, not days off. Easter Monday is a public holiday in the UK (except Scotland), Ireland and Australia.
